Thanks to Reply 1988‘s new year’s hiatus, I finally get to catch a Chinese drama which has caught my eye some time back since its debut. In some ways, the set up is similar to kdrama I Remember You (both shows aired almost back to back, with the Korean one first). In both Remember and Dare, we have an arrogant, tactless criminal profiler as the main lead, and a plucky female heroine. However, in Dare‘s case, the female lead isn’t a police officer (though her bff - and long time admirer) is one. Unlike Remember though, the main selling point of Dare is its romance angle. Adapted from a novel of the same name, the genre is slanted towards romance (and rom-com?) for the better half of the show. (to the point i am so annoyed with her speech’s volume in the show) (btw, it’s 24eps, each only half an hour) Our female lead, Jianyao, is very much like the plucky Cha Ji-an in Remember. However, while Ji-an is a tomboy, Jianyao is very feminine. That doesn’t mean Jianyao is your typical pretty vase in the background. She may not throw punches as well as Ji-an, but she has a very sharp analytical brain. And throughout Dare, she proves that she can profile criminals as well as the expert - Simon Bo (Bo Jinyan). As for Simon, he is very similar to Lee-hyun in Remember. Both are annoying arrogant yet rightly so, cos their abilities to read people’s minds are peerless. However, unlike Lee-hyun, Simon Bo realises he is in love with Jianyao rather early on in the show. Which is the super hilarious portion of Dare, imo.Īnd he adapts his behaviour in order to woo her. As a renowned profiler, he professes to know humans’ behaviours and their associative mental states like the back of his hand…but he can’t fathom women. Thus, he cannot understand why his “romantic gestures” (like ordering Jianyao to move in with him and insisting that she should cos “it is the right and logical choice”) would fail. Thankfully, he has a good buddy Kris (Fu Ziyu), whose EQ is much higher than him to provide pointers. In terms of narrative, both Remember and Dare criss-crosses past and present - the heroes’ pasts in both dramas have an impact on the current case they are working on. I shan’t say more for fear of spoilers… As for the Ultimate Nemesis character, I’d say both Remember and Dare have a scary enough Psycho to keep you on the edge of your seat. Probably cos Dare spends quite a lot of time on developing Jianyao-Simon’s love line, I kinda feel the earlier cases are shabbily dealt with. Given that this is a psycho-thriller, I’d expect a better explanation on how our profiler manages to solve the case and nail the perp. (i didn’t recall feeling annoyed or frustrated) At least in Remember, we do get a fairly satisfying debriefing. The story is intertwined with that of her older sister, Pinky, who is engaged to be married to an Indian boy and whose relationship is directly affected by Jess’ s behaviour. The story continues as Jess’s football team travels to Germany for a game and reaches the finals. Jess isn’t comfortable doing this but her love for playing football overrides this and her friends encourage her to go against her parents' wishes and break the rules. This requires lying to her parents about what she is doing-she pretends she has a part time job, and sneaks out when they are not around. The coach, Joe, takes a liking to Jess and, impressed by her obvious skills, gives Jess a position in the team. Jules encourages her to try out for the team. She is very good at the game and is noticed by a girl, Jules, who is a member of the local girls’ football team, the Hounslow Harriers. Jess’s parents forbid her to play the game but she disobeys them and continues to play anyway. However, her parents have very traditional Indian beliefs and a girl playing football is not part of them. Her idol is Beckham and she dreams of playing with him and kicking the winning goal. “No-one can bend a ball like Beckham” is the catch phrase of Jess (Jessminder) an Indian teenager brought up in England who loves playing football with her mates. material that may scare or disturb children. Again, I had a wonderful day together with people, with the guide, and everything I got to see.Day 1. This tour is for sure sensational as the east side is a rougher drive than the west side, so it is a nice difference compared to the west tour. This was the last stop, so, unfortunately, we had to start heading back. Snorkeling was not mandatory of course, if you didn’t want to snorkel you could enjoy the environment of the beach around you. Director’s Bay is a popular diving spot because of the beautiful reef. The combination of an off-road adventure with snorkeling in clear blue water was great. The second part of the tour was a snorkel stop. We stepped into the Jeep and onto the last stop at Director’s Bay. Next, we went to the plantation, we had time to walk around, look around in the shop, and we got to taste very tasty banana bread! With the view of the plantation, it seemed like you suddenly ended up in a completely different part of Curaçao. Once down we could rest again in the Jeep and on to our next stop. That was a 2 in 1 experience, not only did we see a stunning cave that was mesmerizing, but we also got the view from on top of the cave. Where there was a breath-taking view of the coast, and we could even see Bonaire in the distance. The cave we climbed into was large and we walked through the cave to stand on top of the cliff. First, we went to a cave, and to get to it we had to climb up a cliff to the top, but it was nice to stretch our legs. Furthermore, the adrenaline rushing through your body is an amazing feeling and to have a trustworthy driver is especially important and luckily ours was.īesides the beautiful scenic route that we had just by driving in the Jeep, we also made three official stops at a cave, the Aloe Vera Plantation, and at Director’s Bay. While getting a thrilling rush you also got a stunning panoramic scenic view. On the way to the north coast, we climbed across the rocky terrain, which give everyone in the jeep a dose of adrenaline. Each part of Sint Joris Bay is unique, which kept the view interesting.ĭuring the tour on the east side, we also drove past the north coast which is a bonus. With the sandy plains, many of the same types of trees together created a nice picture that gave a different point of view. The bay was full of diverse types of scenery with its sandy plains, green plants, and water made for a good blend of scenery. I was certainly impressed as we drove past the beautiful landscapes that were all around us. We were so lucky to be able to see part of Sint Joris. We drove quickly from the paved roads towards Sint Joris Bay, a private terrain that you can only visit while on tour. It was great that everyone was just as excited as I was because that immediately created a pleasant atmosphere within the group. Together with my equally enthusiastic fellow passengers, we left for the east side of the island. I would soon discover what this Jeep Safari adventure in Curaçao be like, and I was ready to get in and see what this day would bring. However, this tour did not meet my expectation, it surpassed them and I was positively surprised. I expected that these two tours would be similar, with the difference being the environment and the duration since the east tour is shorter. Ever since I went on the Jeep Safari and Beach Adventure- West tour, I wanted to experience the Jeep Safari and Snorkel Adventure – East tour. 【INNOVATIVE DESIGN】 Unlike most sinks that have a flat bottom, the CozyBlockworkstation sink utilizes drain with a slope from one side of the sink towards the drain. She says: “As a female designer, I want to emphasise that the power of women comes from women themselves and is innate.” In the collection, stereotypical female garments such as hosiery are used in unusual ways - a flesh-coloured pair of tights are ruched to make an abstract structural shape on the front of one of the pieces and inside-out tailored trouser pockets are transformed into a garter belt swinging from the hips. Guo believes women are complex and fearless and therefore their clothes should reflect this. “Fashion can reshape a person’s spirit, state and emotions. Guo explains: “Fashion can reshape a person’s spirit, state and emotions. However, it was an emotional connection that persuaded her to study Womenswear at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology instead. With creativity in the blood, Guo believed her calling would be architecture, as she was exposed to the unique ethnic styled buildings in her hometown, the Chinese-minority Dong Nationality. “My father is an interior designer, and my mother is the owner of a clothing store, so I have a lot of subtle enlightenment on design and fashion,” she says. Guo’s creativity stems from her family back in China. One look even features a neckline so high it could substitute as a face mask. An anarchistic distortion and contortion combine a dishevelled boyfriend shirt with superhero costume. Instead, the multi-layered deconstructed fabrics use large slits to expose the bras and knickers, juxtaposed against the harsh linear tailoring and wide ‘80s power suit jackets. In many of Guo’s outfits, there is no end and no beginning - no traditional or conventional pattern cutting. Marilyn Monroe’s infamous dress flare up over a subway grating in The Seven Year is testimony to that, superseding the iconography of the film itself. Like Monroe, Guo attempts to capture the beauty in embarrassing moments – instead of clothing working in opposition with the wearer, both the body and garment are intertwined as one. The celebrity collages on the cover of OK! Magazine, the never-ending headlines in the Daily Mail, they start to become more famous than the celebrities themselves. This means it will almost effortless for the car to take off from a stoplight, as well as easier to climb even on difficult terrain. Since there are no gears in a CVT transmission, your vehicle will find it easier to get to the ideal torque ratio and maintain it. So that feeling you get in an ordinary automatic, where you climb through the gears, just isn’t there.Īnother difference you may notice, when driving a vehicle like this, is an easier take off. When you slam on the gas, the car will immediately zoom to a nice, brisk speed – but then, it will hold steady at that speed, even as you continue to apply pressure to the gas pedal. Say, for instance, you try to speed up to pass another car. The unusual thing is that it essentially chooses the ideal speed for any given situation and holds it constant-even if you’re accelerating the car. In that sense, it might make for a smoother ride. You’ll just notice the car getting faster or slower. For instance, when you’re driving a vehicle with CVT, you won’t notice or “feel” gears shifting. There are several differences between the automatic and continuously variable transmission, apart from the basic functionality of each. Unlike the individual gears in an ordinary automatic, this gear can handle all speeds. With a continuously variable transmission, though, you do not have all these gears. You see, with ordinary automatics, there are a set number of gears-so, for instance, you may see a vehicle marked as a “6-speed automatic.” Each of these gears accommodates a certain speed range, so as you start driving faster, the car may automatically shift from first gear into second, and maybe then on to the third. To a certain extent, you do operate it more or less normally-sliding the shift lever from Park into Drive, then zooming off! From there, though, the CVT gets a little bit more complex. The CVT also works a little differently from a conventional transmission. Because their width is variable, it changes depending on how much power the car needs, hence the term “continuously variable transmission”. One pulley is connected to the engine, the other to the wheels. It features a pair of pulleys of variable width, connected by a belt. The CVT, on the other hand, doesn’t have any gears. The standard automatic features a complex series of gears that transmit the power of the engine to the wheels. And some carmakers have been doing so for many years.ĬVT stands for continuously variable transmission, which is different from a conventional automatic transmission. Audi, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Jeep, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota all provide CVTs as the standard transmission in at least one model. They’re becoming so common that it’s hard to find a mainstream manufacturer that doesn’t offer them in at least some models. But CVTs are no longer a mere experiment by automakers looking for new ways to improve efficiency. What does this term mean? And more pointedly, is it something you should buy – or something you should avoid?ĬVTs were once derided as the shiftless “rubber band” transmission that made cars seem as if they were revving up forever. With holiday season being one of the most popular times for people shopping for a new vehicle, you may come across the term CVT Transmission. |
